This week, we worked on our cockroach experiments. My group tested what materials they can stick to. We noticed that they stuck to the plastick cups and our hands, so we wanted to know what else they would stick to.
IV: (material being tested) wood, glass, cloth, paper, computor screen, dry erase board
DV: whether the cockroaches stuck or not
CV: we used 2 normal, healthy adult cockroaches for accuracy, we made sure that they stuck for at least 30 sec., and we had all materials set at a 90 degree angle
Procedure:
1. set up or find materials at a 90 degree angle
2. get 2 cups and label A and B
3. place 1 adult cockroach in each cup
4. get timer ready
5. get data table ready
6. place something soft below material being tested
7. place roach A on material being tested and start timer
8. after 30 sec., or when it falls, put the cockroach back in the cup
9. record in data table whether the roach stuck or not
10. repeat steps 7-9 with roach B
11. repeat steps 4-10 with each material
Hypothesis:
I thought that they would stick to everything except for the dry erase board and the computor screen, or the materials with more texture.
Results: (roaches had the same results)
Wood- they stuck
Glass- they stuck
Cloth- they stuck
Paper- they stuck
Computor screen- they stuck
Dry erase board- they didn't stick
Conclusion:
They were able to stick to everything except dry erase board. Therefore, I think they can stick to almost every material.
