Science Class-Mar 3o-Apr 3

This week, we started by finishing with our science project.  There isn't a lot to discuss about that.  We also had a test.  There isn't a lot to discuss about this, either.  Before we took the test on Thursday, we started a new unit.  We started this on Wednesday.

The first thing we did when we started the unit was discuss observations:
+we use our senses to observe things
+what we notice happen
+can be qualitative or quantitative
+qualitative- description
+quantitative- numbers
+can be emotions or behaviors
+patterns, changes, trends
+can draw conclusions from it later
+used to answer questions and come up with more
+can be your opinion, but not frequently
+background variables- time, temp., date, ect.
+pictures- draw or from a camera, ect.
+macroscopic verses microscopic observations

Then, we observed cockroaches.  So far, I have observed that :
-they hiss
-can be big or small
-longish body
-brown
-feeler things on head
-shell
-have six legs
-hiss when they are being touched or held
-can be light or dark brown
-has white circles under feet (may have been used to stick)
-have small mouthes
-uses feelers for main sense (I think)
-looked like it was cleaning its foot (doing something with its mouth)

That is all that we did this week.
