This week we learned about population, how iguanas on the Galapogas Islands adapted, and different ways for organisms to adapt.
Population-
Population is dynamic (ever changing), not static (never changing). Population is controled by predators and resources. Maximum capacity limit is the limit that an environment can support a population in terms of resources. Fringe speces is a species that lives in open fields around forest.
Iguanas-
We first looked at the regular green iguana, and looked for adaptations that it might have. Then we did the same thing with the yellow and the red iguanas from the Galapogas Islands. They had homologous structures, or similar structures. Therefore they must come from common ancestors and they both adapted into new species.
Processes of evolution-
-mutation: a random change in DNA
-Natural selection: a change in response to the environment
-selective breeding: forced breeding to get desired traits
-genetic engineering: forced change in DNA
-gene flow
-genetic drift
